Sabai grass is a natural fibre abundantly grown in tribal-dominated areas of Orissa and parts of West Bengal. The usage of the grass, locally known bobei ghasa, was earlier confined mainly to rope-making. But over a period of time, the craft has seen an evolution into the production of a very wide range of environment-friendly, elegant and sophisticated utility products for home and other uses. Women workers, mostly belonging to tribal communities are extensively engaged in the production of these items.
This product is handcrafted and hand woven thereby using considerably less electricity. It is a sustainable product made from eco-friendly materials that can be further reused and recycled.
